About Shri Krishna

The 16th century bhakta-poet, Nandadas, sang about the devotional condition:

O friend, since I heard Krishna's name,
I have forgotten my home
and have gone completely mad.
My eyes fill with tears – my mind reels.
My body is transformed.
The fruit of all my fasts and dharma practices
finally arose when I heard the sacred name.
Sings Nandadas, "Look at what happened to her
after truly hearing His name just once –
Imagine what will happen when she sees Him!"

About Kirtan

The Ashta Chhap poets sang in Shri Nathji’s temple. Their poetry depicts a day in the life of Shri Krishna: His play with His family and friends, as well as His love sports with the Gopis. Praises include descriptions of Shri Krishna getting up in the morning, bathing and eating, as well as poems of supplication, in which the poets reveal the greatness of the Blessed Lord, their guru, and fellow practitioners. These poems are sung in ragas which vary by season as well as by the time of day. This style of singing praises which depict the Lila play of Shri Krishna and are sung directly to Him, is called “Lila kirtan.”

About Satsang

"Shri Krishna appears where His bhaktas have satsang. He is addicted to hearing the speech of his bhaktas…Bhaktas should always avoid bad association. It makes them forget their spiritual form and increases ignorance. Keep the association of other bhaktas and cherish their association. Then Shri Krishna’s Lilas will fill your heart."
“If someone is proud and thinks he is spiritually advanced, it becomes difficult for him to maintain good satsang. Shri Krishna is never pleased with pride. When a bhakta has the bhava of being a Das, a follower, then there is true accomplishment. Bhaktas consider themselves subordinate and also understand the sublime nature of other bhaktas.”
